Toilet quilts.....

In the old days people who lived in the countryside had their toilet outside in the garden.

Some of these toilets even had several ‘places’….. and they were used by several families.

For cleaning afterwards, they used old newspaper and other recycled papers. In the Quiltmania, nr 79 was an article about these toilets and especially about  the ‘privy bags’ where those papers were kept. 

Between 1820 and about 1920 those bags were used in  the region of Lancaster County.

Some of those bags are beautiful small quilts. I really love them more than our modern toiletpaper holders!

IN my garden is also a toilet , we made it into a hen-house. 

Me and my knitted dress

Willy showed us a picture of her knitted dress  knitted by her mother. They also had knitted underwear.

My mother also was a knitter, as a child i always had knitted dresses, scrafs, hats,mittens and socks . I don't remember knitted underwear but i surely had it, My mother knitted usely with 3Suisses yarn, a good quality , it could be used several times.  Here i am in my knitted dress, with the skipping rope in my hand.  I think the coat was made by my auntie Sjaan.

And another one when I was younger , my brother and me, we often were wearing the same colors, same patterns. Aren't we sweet?

A new webshop

Today my niece started a new webshop, i am so proud of her.
They sell beautiful things for your house and garden . I specially love these wooden self-made boards with quotes and prayers.

I will try to translate this one:
 May the Lord be in front of you to show you the right path, behind you to protect you, below you to rescue you and above you to bless you.

And this one reminds me of my childhood....

I think this was part of a prayer or a song I don't remember exactly.

Don't think they only sell religious stuff, another board has a recipe for applecake, should not that be  nice to hang in your kitchen?

Two new bags

I sewed these two bags some weeks ago; The first one i knitted with sari Silk ribbon, i bought it here.

I get a lot of compliments on this bag, people want to touch and ask which material i used, the bag is so colorful and so special.  For the moment it's my everyday-handbag.

The second one is a tote, I bought the fabric and the leather for the handles and bottom last year in Orvieto, Italy.

I sewed the leather myself on my Bernina with a special needle. 

To strengthen the handles a sewed a small piece of leather inside. The result is not perfect because the small pieces slip a bit while sewing, although I  have used some glue.

But overall I am very satisfied with this tote.

I have no internet connextion so i cannot make blogposts and cannot read your blogs.
They promised that things will be repaired this week......

Pelargonium Panduriforme and some more marketpictures

Two years ago i bought this pelargonium, the first year there was only one flower;. In winter she was in the small veranda , no flowers. The whole summer she was outside, no flower, but she did well, new branches and a lot of new leaves. And look what happens now. She is in the veranda  again and she has flowers ! Not a lot but such beautiful flowers.....

Isn't she lovely and there are more flowers coming....

Bastet cowl and some market pictures

First of all I want to send you my best wishes for this New Year. My it bring you good health, happiness and peace.

Weeks before Christmas I was so busy working for the market that I did not show you the things I made for ME.
I crochet the basket cowl with the beautiful  handdyed yarn from Renaissance Dyeing.

The sunday before Christmas I went to a market in a small village nearby. This Christmas market is famous because of the roasted ham they sell.

There also were potatoes boiling in stoves which were used to make the pig food at the farms.

Of course i bought some slices of ham and some potatoes, they were delicious.
